Professional Training in Play Therapy
Missy Wetterlund and Sara Werner have had over 45 years of collective experience and training in the therapeutic use of Play Therapy with children of all ages. They have both developed a passion for understanding how children process their pain and trauma, and in equipping professionals with the necessary training to best facilitate healing in children. Specific trainings that Missy and Sara offer for professionals in the mental health field include:
Somatic Experiential Play Therapy Training
This training focuses on developing skills in Somatic Experiential Play Therapy, including the ability to understand metaphor and the power of play for children as they process their pain and trauma. This is a week long intensive training for professionals which includes being able to conduct 7 live play therapy sessions with a child while being supervised with a “bug in the ear” and live coaching from Missy and Sara. Filial Play Therapy Training
Sometimes a child really needs his or her parent in the room with them while they are doing their therapy work. Filial Play Therapy is a specific form of play therapy developed by Louise and Bernard Guerney in the late 1960s. Sara and Missy offer a training for professionals which focuses on several different approaches to Filial Therapy. This training helps equip therapists to aid in the development and healing of the parent child relationship, as well as helps equip therapists to guide parents in being an integral and active part of their child’s healing process.
Somatic Play Therapy
This workshop specifically focuses on helping play therapists develop skills in understanding and recognizing the mind-body connection, and how to support responses in children that have not been able to complete in the fight/flight/freeze cycle. Professionals will learn how to recognize fight/flight/freeze in children’s play, how to support it, and how to facilitate a release of the trapped survival energy. Contact Sara or Missy to schedule a 1 or 2 day seminar for your agency!
